The #1 movie of the past week was Invincible starring Mark Wahlberg. The movie chronicles the story of Vince Papale. Papale played for the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League. He played two years before the league folded. He received an invitation to a workout held by then Philadelphia coach Dick Vermeil and ended up making the team. He played for the Philadelphia from 1976-1978, mostly on special teams.
His rookie card appeared in the 1977 Topps Football set. The card was listed in the Beckett Football Price Guide as a common in the most recent issue. The release of the movie has spurred interest in the card and hundreds have been listed on Ebay. The card is now selling in the $7-20 range.
These types of cards rarely hold their value as the novelty wears off. Jesse Palmer’s cards were a hot commodity at one time when he appeared on ABC’s The Bachelor, but have cooled off considerably (He was cut recently).

A seller from Allen Park, Michigan recently completed an auction for a 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card for $6,101.99. The card which was graded 9.5 by BGS received 21 bids. The feedback rating of the buyer was 0, so a successful completion of the transaction may be in doubt.

Press Press has confirmed SP’s in their latest release, Press Pass Legends.
There are a total of 10 short printed cards (8 color variation and 2 base cards).
The following cards are the SP’s:
- #39 Vince Young (B&W Photo)
- #47 Reggie Bush (B&W Photo)
- #49 Matt Leinart (B&W Photo)
- #51 Jay Cutler (B&W Photo)
- #58 Bo Jackson (Color Photo)
- #68 Tim Brown (Color Photo)
- #77 Barry Sanders (Color Photo)
- #81 Dan Marino (Color Photo)
- #91 Johnny Lattner
- #92 Desmond Howard
From my experience, the Lattner & Howard cards seemed to be hard to get. I busted two boxes and did not get any of either cards. I did get some of the other SP’s.

With the release of Topps Football came the Topps Rookie Premiere autographs. Every year collectors look forward to this hard to pull set of autographed cards from the years top rookies.
This year is no different. The 2006 NFL Rookie Class is one of the most anticipated in recent memory. Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, A.J. Hawk, DeAngelo Williams, Jay Cutler and others highlight a great offensive class. Even Topps compares this years class to 1983 (Dan Marino, John Elway, Jim Kelly) with the release of the 8306 insert set.
Reggie Bush is the most sought after player in this years sets. The Topps Rookie Premiere Red Ink Autograph which in the past was limited to 10 cards (No word on this years set), has been selling in the $950-$1300 range. There are five completed sales on EBay in this price range.
The black ink version has been selling in the $595-$700 range. A dual Reggie Bush-Matt Leinart red ink version sold for $1300.
The release of SP Authentic autographed patches later in the year may lead to these prices being eclipsed, but will not take away from the popularity of the Topps Rookie Premiere autographs.
