Reggie Bush Topps Rookie Card Variation Found

According to Beckett.com, a fourth version of Reggie Bush’ Topps rookie card has been discovered. 

  • Version #1 (bottom left) is the most prevalent version and was inserted into 2006 Topps Packs.
  • Version #2 (top left) was first found in New Orleans Saints packaged team sets.  It had Bush in his #5 jersey from the Rookie photo shoot.
  • Version #3 (bottom right) replaced the #5 jersey card in the packaged team sets after the NFL ruled that he could not wear the #5 jersey.
  • Version #4 (top right) is the new discovered variation which is believed to be found only in 2006 Topps football factory sets.

Topps Turkey Red Football Shortprints

Topps Turkey Red Football was released recently and like Topps Heritage Football it contains a large number of Shortprinted (SP) cards.

Although not confirmed by Topps, these appear to be the 50 shortprint Cards and the 13 variation cards.

Topps Announces MLB Rookie All-Star Team

Topps has announced the members of the 48th annual Topps Major League Rookie All-Star Team.

The members are:

1B – Prince Fielder (Milwaukee Brewers)
2B – Dan Uggla (Florida Marlins)
3B – Ryan Zimmerman (Washington Nationals)
SS – Hanley Ramirez (Florida Marlins)
OF – Melky Cabrera (New York Yankees)
OF – Andre Ethier (Los Angeles Dodgers)
OF – Nick Markakis (Baltimore Orioles)
CA – Russell Martin (Los Angeles Dodgers)

PI – Justin Verlander (Detroit Lions)
PI – Francisco Liriano (Minnesota Twins)

The team is voted on by Major League managers and has been chosen since 1959.  There are 14 former selections who are now in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Their cards will be designated with a trophy on their card in Topps Series One.

2007 Topps Baseball Design is Revealed

14.jpgTopps has released giant sample cards to distributors of it’s 2007 Topps Baseball.  Series 1 will be available in stores the first week of February.

Topps mailed giant promotional cards to distributors which featured David Ortiz, Topps Spokesman David Wright and Ryan Howard.  The back of the cards contained product information.

The cards are black with silver black lettering.  The Topps logo is up top with the team name and the players name below the photo is in block lettering with the last name emphasized.

Cory Lidle Card to Be Included in Set

Topps had a tough decision when Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle lost his life in an airplane accident over Mahattan.  Lidle’s card was scheduled to be included in the 2006 Topps Updates & Highlights set.  Topps has decided to pull the original card and add a memoriam on the front of the card.  The new card will have a black banner above his name which says “In Memorian 1972-2006″.

From $20 to $200 in 10 Minutes

How does a card go up 1000% in 10 minutes?

19.jpgeTopps introducted RRO (Restricted Rookie Offering) cards during the baseball season.  These cards are made available at any given time for a period of anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 hours.  Once that time is up the only way to get your hands on one of them is on the secondary market.

The first football cards introducted by eTopps was an A.J. Hawk card.  It was only available on September 14th from 5:35 PM to 5:45 PM.  After this time elapsed the card was trading for $200 on the eTopps site.  There were a total of 183 cards issued.  Buyers are limited to 5 RRO’s and eTopps will never issue this rookie again as an individual eTopps card.

The highest completed auction ended at $201.54 on September 15th.  As of September 20th, the card was trading at around $155.

Topps has announced that 2006 Topps Turkey Red will pickup where last year’s set left off.  The 2006 version of Topps Turkey red will be numbered 316-630.

Most Popular Football Card of the Year?

With the release of Topps Football came the Topps Rookie Premiere autographs. Every year collectors look forward to this hard to pull set of autographed cards from the years top rookies.

This year is no different. The 2006 NFL Rookie Class is one of the most anticipated in recent memory. Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, A.J. Hawk, DeAngelo Williams, Jay Cutler and others highlight a great offensive class. Even Topps compares this years class to 1983 (Dan Marino, John Elway, Jim Kelly) with the release of the 8306 insert set.

Reggie Bush is the most sought after player in this years sets. The Topps Rookie Premiere Red Ink Autograph which in the past was limited to 10 cards (No word on this years set), has been selling in the $950-$1300 range. There are five completed sales on EBay in this price range.

The black ink version has been selling in the $595-$700 range. A dual Reggie Bush-Matt Leinart red ink version sold for $1300.

The release of SP Authentic autographed patches later in the year may lead to these prices being eclipsed, but will not take away from the popularity of the Topps Rookie Premiere autographs.

David Wright Signs Exclusive with Topps

The Topps Company has announced that it has signed an exclusive trading card deal with New York Mets Superstar David Wright.

The deal grants New York City-based Topps exclusive rights within the Major League Baseball trading card category for autographed cards, memorabilia cards, insert cards and Wright’s image on packaging and advertising.

‘’I’m honored and humbled to be a part of the Topps family on an exclusive basis,’’ said Wright. ‘’It’s truly exciting to be partnering up with a quality company that has the history of Topps.’’

Wright, the National League’s starting third baseman at this year’s All-Star Game, currently ranks in the Top 10 in three National League offensive categories – Homeruns, RBI’s and Slugging percentage. The Mets, which are fueled by a number of Wright’s team-leading offensive stats including batting average, runs and hits, sit atop the National League East with an 11.5 game lead over the Atlanta Braves.

‘’At the age of 23, David is already one of the marquee players in the game,’’ said Warren Friss, General Manager of Sports, Topps. ‘’Topps is thrilled to be working with David and we look forward to a long-term partnership.’’

David Wright autographed and game-used memorabilia cards are currently some of the most collectible and valuable cards in the market. Wright’s autographed cards will appear in the upcoming 2006 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball product due to ship on August 8th. Wright’s image along with Albert Pujols and David Ortiz will also highlight boxes of the third installment of 2006 Topps Baseball Cards — Updates & Highlights. Photos of Wright from the 2006 All-Star Game and Homerun Derby will appear in the product, which hits store shelves nationwide November 15th.
